Smart Doll – Kizuna

INTRODUCTION

From a young age, the daughters of the wealthy Yumeno family were put through a rigorous upbringing of schooling during the day followed by after school tutoring and sports training in the evening where Kizuna learned fencing. Daughters of the Yumeno family were good looking, always did well in exams and they attracted the attention of many people who wanted to be their friends.

In the little free time that the sisters had, Kizunas sisters wanted to relax and unwind by spending their time on social media staring at their phones but Kizuna was different – she did a lot of reading and studying especially about anthropology which is the study of human society and behavior past and present.

Humans have basic requirements such as food and shelter followed by social and self esteem needs as explained in Maslow’s Triangle. The environment that the Yumeno sisters lived in provided all of this. However, humans evolve based on needs to adapt to the surrounding environment and when one doesnt need to adapt to the environment anymore then evolution stops and one finds themselves in the Comfort Zone.

Kizuna began to realize that this environment was more of a danger zone than a comfort zone for her and her sisters and that if they didnt do anything to change then they may as well end up being vegetables. Kizuna tried to make her sisters realize what situation they were in but they were stubborn as always – they just didnt get it and were too busy spending time on their social media timelines while chatting to friends online not realizing that many of them only wanted to befriend them because they were wealthy.

Kizuna knew that if she couldnt save her sisters then she had to at least save herself and made the decision to give up everything she had and pursue her dreams.

Dad, I know this is pretty sudden but Ive decided to leave home. I want to study Anthropology and eventually move abroad.
Anthropology eh? And why would you want to do that? asks her father. Kizuna takes a deep breath before replying.
Oh you know, I want to learn and help others understand how society has formed over the yearsand why most of us live the way others want us to be instead of living our own lives.

Wow Kizuna thats pretty deep stuff. I know you love anthropology from all those books you read but passion alone isnt going to pay the bills you know. You need to do well at school so you can get a good job. People will respect you. Its what society expects.

Dad, did you even listen to what I never mind. Im moving out next week.

Kizunas father stood staring out the window in silence before replying Understood but dont expect a penny from us – you are going to have to earn your own keep.

Thanks dad. I was going to get a part time job in a restaurant for a while.

What?! My Kizuna as a waitress?! What would people think?!

You just dont get it do you dad?

Those were the last words Kizuna uttered to her father before seeing him again 12 years later.

Kizuna ventured out on a journey to start a new life. She left home with a single suitcase and moved into a small run down apartment which had mold on the walls and 3 resident cockroaches which Kizuna named Peter, Piper and Pepper. Kizuna stayed in this apartment for the next 2 years while she continued her studies where she also worked at the Japanese restaurant as a waitress until midnight seven days a week.

Some wonder why Kizuna gave up what she had to live a life in such a challenging environment but for Kizuna this is just what she needed. Her studies, work and dream kept her constantly laser focused to continue to move forward – to evolve.

After Kizuna completed her studies she sold everything that she couldnt fit in her suitcase and moved abroad. Kizuna wanted to work in anthropology somehow but didnt know where to start. What she did know however was that she should constantly keep herself in an environment that would constantly challenge herself and when presented with options she should always opt for the most unfamiliar, most treacherous and most risky path. Only by continuously fumbling in the dark and tripping over hurdles can she build upon her failures – without failures to build upon, there are no building blocks to build with.

Kizuna found herself in familiar turf as she worked once again as a waitress during the evenings but in the daytime she had a part time job working as a tour guide for a Museum. The Museum was famed for its archeological findings where Kizuna took a deep interest in some of the exhibits – namely the ones which featured archeological findings of human figurative art.

Ten years on and we see Kizuna sitting with her father watching a recording of her giving a speech at the opening ceremony of her museum. Kizuna went on to create the Museum of Human Figurative Art after she discovered how relevant archeological findings were with her interest in anthropology – how sculptures of the human form found across the world represented culture spreading tens of thousands of years.
The museum focuses on using human figurative art to teach us how societies have evolved over tens of thousands of years – from the time of hunter gatherers living in limestone caves to the modern human living in concrete cities.

Yep. Its a form of art. Its the modern day representation of the human form. We call it Smart Doll.
Whats so smart about it? asks her father with a puzzled look on his face.
Kizuna smiles at her dad and says

You’re not catching me at my best. Yet.
